Our story

Choose a refurbished bike

the most affordable, reliable and sustainable option to get from A to B

  • Our story begins in a time when bicycles were mainly sold offline. You bought a new bike at the local bike shop, at a price largely determined by the major manufacturers. Those prices were high, which led to a growing demand for affordable second-hand bicycles.
  • We saw that development early on. That is why we increasingly started focusing on used bicycles. As the demand for good and reliable second-hand bikes increased, we started to specialize in what we love doing most: refurbishing.
  • Every bike that arrives at Cheapassbikes gets a second life. Worn parts are replaced, brakes, gears and chains are carefully adjusted, and where necessary, the bike is repainted. In this way, we deliver bicycles that are not only affordable, but also technically sound and ready to ride immediately.
  • So that you can hit the road without any worries. And to reinforce that, we offer a 30-day warranty

What are we doing?

FROM WASTE TO PRODUCT

If a bicycle has been parked in a public place, it must not be left there for too long. For this reason, the Dutch government has established specific rules. Enforcement officers place a warning label on the bicycle stating that it will be removed within a certain period if it is not collected by the owner.

After this period has expired, the bicycle is taken away and stored in the municipal bicycle depot. The owner still has the opportunity to collect the bicycle there, but if this is not done, the municipality becomes the owner of the bicycle.

In the Netherlands, bicycles are discarded on a massive scale in this way, and municipal bicycle depots are overflowing. Without green initiatives like Cheapassbikes, these bicycles are destroyed and the scrap metal is recycled.

The savior in need:

Why waste valuable energy recovering these raw materials through recycling – while new bicycles are being manufactured on the other side of the world? That makes no sense!

Cheapassbikes aims for a circular economy. We refurbish these discarded bicycles or reuse their parts. The result: the refurbished bicycle!

The most reliable, affordable, and sustainable choice to get from A to B.

Inclusive workplace

CHEAPASSBIKES IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Cheapassbikes is a social enterprise. We offer workplaces to young people who are distant from the labor market.

What does that mean?

Quite simply: these young people struggle to find or qualify for a regular job due to recognized employment disabilities. Within our team, they are trained to become bicycle mechanics. A fun job with structure, responsibility, and results, but also a safety net to fall back on.
